Artist Talk & Studio Tour: Irene Mamiye

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for an Artist Talk & Studio Tour with Irene Mamiye, Artist-in-Residence, on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 1 PM in the Helen Frankenthaler Cottage at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. Mamiye will discuss her multidisciplinary practice, spanning photography, printmaking, video, and installation, and share insights into her current residency at CCP. Rooted in analog processes and material experimentation, her work explores memory, identity, and transformation through surface, tactility, and accumulation. During the talk and tour, Mamiye will present "Echo Pressé," an ongoing body of large-scale, pressure-based monoprints developed through botanical pressing, pigment transfer, and direct contact between organic materials, textiles, and paper. Working without a traditional matrix, these works function as tactile documents, impressions of displacement and ornament that register residue, decay, and repetition. Visitors will have the opportunity to see works in progress and learn how Mamiye is expanding the series at CCP by integrating techniques such as salt-mordant etching, aquatint, linocut, and cyanotype alongside monoprinting on the Takach etching press. Born in Marseille to Egyptian parents and based in New York, Mamiye brings a diasporic perspective to her exploration of decorative language and cultural memory. The event offers a rare look into her studio process and the conceptual framework behind "Echo Pressé," as she tests scale, materials, and installation strategies within CCP’s printmaking facilities. All are welcome to attend this intimate conversation and behind-the-scenes tour.
